appx 1 hour from Ostional Refuge and 45 minutes from Camaronal, famous for the nesting of turtles.
1 hour from Guaitil, an indigenous town, where you can still witness some of the Indian culture that is left in the Guanacaste province. Guaitil is famous for its pottery, and you can buy directly from the artisans.
1 hour from Barra Honda National Park with several caves that you can visit.
1 hour and 30 minutes from Palo Verde National Park with crocodiles in River Tempisque, and more than 250 species of birds.
2 hours from Santa Rosa National Park with 10 different natural habitats and an incredible variety of flora and fauna: 75 kinds of mammals, 260 species of birds, more than 2,000 kinds of butterflies
2 hours and 30 minutes from Monteverde Cloud Forest reserve with its rich and varied wild life.

With a warm climate most of the year, the Samara area is known for great weather. It is reliably sunny most of the time. Because we are so close to the equator, there is no real winter here. In the dry season, we seldom have any rain. In the green season, you can expect some afternoon or evening showers, though in the tropics that is the perfect time to lounge around and read a book. Pack for warm weather at the beach. If you are also staying in San Jose or any of the highland areas, a sweater will come in handy.
